About Me

Hi, I’m Megan Anderson, the creator of Retired Roamers. I’m based in the Chicago area, and like many people nearing retirement age, I’ve started thinking more seriously about the kind of travel I want in this next chapter of life.

For me, travel has become less about rushing from one attraction to the next and more about finding places that feel meaningful, comfortable, interesting, and worth the effort it takes to get there.

Retired Roamers was created for people 55 and older who still have plenty of curiosity, energy, and desire to explore, while also wanting honest, practical travel information from someone who understands that travel changes as we get older.

Why I Created Retired Roamers

As I began researching trips for myself, my spouse, and friends, I noticed something: a lot of travel advice online seems written for backpackers, influencers, luxury travelers, or families with young kids.

There is absolutely a place for all of that. It just does not always answer the questions many older travelers actually ask.

Questions like:

  • Is this destination physically manageable?
  • How much walking is really involved?
  • Is it easy to get around without feeling overwhelmed?
  • Are there comfortable lodging options near the things we want to see?
  • Is this a good trip for couples, friends, solo travelers, or small groups?
  • What should we know before spending the money?
  • Will this feel relaxing, inspiring, safe, and worthwhile?

Retired Roamers is my way of gathering the kind of travel information I wish I could find more easily.

Travel Advice for Real Life

This site is for people who still want adventure, just with better planning.

Maybe you are newly retired. Maybe retirement is getting closer. Maybe you are still working and trying to make the most of your vacation time. Maybe you finally have a little more freedom to travel, and you want to choose wisely.

Here, you will find travel ideas, destination guides, planning tips, packing suggestions, and practical advice written with older travelers in mind.

That means I care about things like comfort, pace, accessibility, value, safety, weather, transportation, food, rest days, and whether a trip is truly enjoyable instead of merely impressive on paper.

A Trusted Resource for Travelers 55+

My goal is to make Retired Roamers feel like advice from a well-informed friend. Someone who has done the research, thought through the details, and understands that a great trip is about more than checking boxes.

I write with travelers in mind who want to feel confident before they go. People who are willing to explore, learn, taste new foods, visit beautiful places, and enjoy the world, while also appreciating a comfortable hotel bed, a sensible itinerary, and enough time to actually enjoy the experience.
